Embedded Application Engineer

Job description

This is a highly visible, multi-disciplinary technical position that will have important and broad impacts on our current and future business expansion. This position is part of a forming group of application engineers for enabling the promotion of A3D through system solutions and tailored reference designs.

Who are we and what do we do?

We are a rapidly growing team looking for people who share our passion for developing solutions at the intersection of imaging and depth. AIRY3D has developed DepthIQ™, a 3D computer vision platform that consists of a Transmissive Diffraction Mask and computational imaging software that can convert any camera sensor into a versatile 3D sensor at a fraction of the manufacturing cost.

Based in Montreal, AIRY3D recently raised US$10 million in series A funding led by Intel Capital. This financing will allow AIRY3D to advance its licensing roadmap for the first commercial adoptions of DepthIQ 3D by top-tier consumer electronics companies in mobile and other markets such as automotive and AR/VR.

What are we looking for?

The embedded Application Engineer (AE) will help design and develop solutions to support future requirements related to depth - such as ID anti-spoof, object detection, smart cameras, intelligent multi-camera systems, robotic interaction, etc. You will have a deep understanding of software on embedded systems for mobile and IoT platforms.

As a member of the Application Engineering team, this role will help position A3D as the strategic partner for new and potential customers and within the ecosystem by providing strong and localized technical design support from early engagement through system solution.

In addition, the embedded AE will support technical product marketing activities to ensure that impactful and powerful marketing messages are communicated across all regions worldwide consistently. This position will collaborate with all groups within A3D in new technology evaluation and development.

What you will do:

  • Embedded Application Development
    • Design and develop embedded real-time reference applications using A3D technology in accordance with established standards.
    • Develop, refine, and tune applications to match customer opportunities.
    • Validate, package and support deployment of releases.
    • Support development efforts towards successful new product development.
    • Analyze and resolve technical and application problems.
    • Assess opportunities for application and process improvement and share with team members and other parties.
    • Maintain high standards of engineering quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits, while delivering solutions on-time and on-budget.
  • Team Engagement
    • Work closely with Product and R&D teams for alignment in product requirements and system solutions to enable AIRY3D promotion.
    • Develop collaborative working relationships at all levels within A3D, maintain regular communication with the AE team on project schedules, provide regular status updates to keep all relevant parties and global teams informed.
    • Collaborate with other software developers, business analysts and software architects to plan, design, develop, test, and maintain image processing and depth-based applications.
    • Participate in peer-reviews of solution designs and related code.
    • Participate in new technology evaluation and business development activities.
  • Support
    • As part of the AE team, bring passion and focus in ecosystem partnership development, build close personal and business relationships with working teams at key partner companies, support securing the initial design-ins in the system platform and reference designs, and participate in the joint demonstration of the system platform with sensor partners.
    • Prepare reports, manuals and other documentation on the status, operation, and maintenance of the technology.
    • Be primary contact on technical issues for Field Application Engineers, Sales, and key customers.
    • Devise innovative techniques for testing and characterizing leading-edge digital, image sensor and mixed-signal devices.
    • Create demonstrations and presentations.
    • Reproduce and resolve customer’s software/hardware problems and provide interim solutions to keep our customers' production flowing.
  • Strategy
    • Assist in the collection and documentation of user's requirements, development of user stories, estimates and work plans.
    • Research and evaluate a variety of software products.
    • Participate in new technology evaluation and prototyping.
