Field Application Engineer

Job description


We’re looking for a well-rounded, self-starting, individual contributor to establish our technical support presence in China. As a member of the FAE team, you will report directly to the FAE leadership team and will have matrixed accountability to your customers’ account managers.




Who are we and what do we do?


We are a rapidly growing team looking for people who share our passion for developing solutions at the intersection of imaging and depth. AIRY3D has developed DepthIQ™, a 3D computer vision platform that consists of a Transmissive Diffraction Mask and computational imaging software that can convert any camera sensor into a versatile 3D sensor at a fraction of the manufacturing cost.


Based in Montreal, AIRY3D recently raised US$10 million in series A funding led by Intel Capital. This financing will allow AIRY3D to advance its licensing roadmap for the first commercial adoptions of DepthIQ 3D by top-tier consumer electronics companies in mobile and other markets such as automotive and AR/VR.


What are we looking for?


As a member of our FAE team, your role is multidisciplinary.

  • Technical support: Negotiate design trade-offs. Promptly reproduce, report and debug integration issues relating to software, optics, imaging processing algorithms, electronics, manufacturing, evaluation and manufacturing testing.

  • Project Management: Track customer milestones and AIRY3D customer deliverables. Proactively escalate potential gaps/misalignments in delivery schedules. Communicate timely, concise, accurate project updates to the broader team.

  • Technical marketing: Proactively engage customers about technology needs with the intention of identifying potential new features.

  • Program Management: Explore customer comments about how to improve collaboration with AIRY3D in any capacity. Drive these collaboration improvement activities internally with the intention of creating strong customer engagement.

  • Quality Assurance: Final review/test of customer deliverables.

  • Sales: Proactively promote AIRY3D products. Build/Exploit strong customer relationships to

    advance AIRY3D business interests. Manage customer technical expectations and messaging.


What you will do:


  • AIRY3D is a start-up; expect to contribute to a variety of activities, in sync with your leadership team.

  • Support the execution of your customers’ account plans, as defined by the AIRY3D account management team.

  • Provide pre and post-sales support with a focus on the consumer smartphone market, and may also include consumer-PC, consumer-IoT, consumer-other, commercial, industrial, automotive.

  • Work remotely and on-site with customers and with AIRY3D headquarters in Montreal, Canada.

  • Travel domestically and internationally as required. Percentage of time traveling will depend on location of FAE in relation to target customers.

Job requirements

What you bring to our team - "Must have":


  • Advanced degree (MS) in Engineering or equivalent experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience as an FAE supporting sensor products in the aforementioned markets

  • Professional proficiency Mandarin and English language skills

  • A commitment to customer service as a means to grow sales and drive business.

  • A commitment to professional software development practices, structuring/documenting/reviewing

    code, merging, testing and releasing.

  • Experience integrating API-based SDK products supported by header files, documentation, sample

    code, etc.

[Consumer-smartphone]

  • Experience supporting the integration and debug of low-level code into Android kernels

    • Android camera HAL

    • Android camera ISP

  • Experience with the design of smartphone cameras, including image sensor and optics

  • Experience supporting factory test and resolving high-volume manufacturing issues


What you bring to our team - "Nice to have":


  • Experience with other single-sensor depth technologies, e.g. phase detect

  • Experience with multi-component depth sensing technologies; Time-of-Flight (ToF), Stereo-Vision (SV), and Structured-Light (SL)

  • Experience with image signal processing (ISP) algorithms found in ISP pipelines

  • Experience with algorithms used to augment/”densify” sparse depth maps

  • Experience with machine or computer vision applications; mapping, navigation, human presence, facial recognition, visual simultaneous location and mapping (SLAM), object avoidance, facial dewarping, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), augmented-reality (AR) and virtual-reality (VR).

  • Other language skills, e.g. French, Japanese, German

  • Demonstrated experience with low-level programming on SoC architectures, preferably applied to

    processing of image data from sensor through to storage, display, and/or analysis

  • Experience with imaging APIs, architecture, and performance optimization in a heterogeneous processing environment (DSP, CPU, GPU)

  • Porting algorithms from C++,and OpenCV to mobile embedded platforms

  • Benchmarking performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing creative solutions to

    improve performance

  • Familiarity with multi-core parallel programming (multi-thread, affinity, thread pools, etc.)

[Consumer-PC]

  • Experience with Windows camera driver

  • Experience with the design of PC cameras, including image sensor and optics

  • Experience supporting factory test and resolving high-volume manufacturing issues

[Consumer-IoT]

  • Experience with Linux, Python

  • Experience with embedded software products on ARM-based platforms

[Industrial]

  • Experience with C++ and C# in Windows and Linux environments

  • Experience with embedded software products on ARM-based platforms

  • Experience with imaging applications and standards, e.g. robotics, GigE vision

  • Experience with FPGA-based products
