Software Lead – Computational Imaging

Job description

We’re looking for an individual to contribute to and lead a talented team of computational imaging software engineers as we prepare to bring DepthIQ – our passive, single-sensor depth platform – to market. This is a unique opportunity to apply your experience in computational imaging and computer vision across a wide variety of use cases that leverage imaging and depth data in markets spanning mobile, consumer, industrial and automotive.

Who are we and what do we do?

We are a rapidly growing team looking for people who share our passion for developing solutions at the intersection of imaging and depth. AIRY3D has developed DepthIQ™, a 3D computer vision platform that consists of a Transmissive Diffraction Mask and computational imaging software that can convert any camera sensor into a versatile 3D sensor at a fraction of the manufacturing cost.

Based in Montreal, AIRY3D recently raised US$10 million in series A funding led by Intel Capital. This financing will allow AIRY3D to advance its licensing roadmap for the first commercial adoptions of DepthIQ 3D by top-tier consumer electronics companies in mobile and other markets such as automotive and AR/VR.

What are we looking for?

To be successful in this role, you must bring leadership skills and computational imaging experience in equal measure to apply research results to novel solutions showcasing the unique possibilities and advantages of DepthIQ. We’re looking for someone to mentor others, setting an example of “what good looks like” for the software design, development and deployment process. And who is keen to roll up their sleeves and contribute wherever necessary.

What you will do:

The computational imaging team is responsible for developing advanced algorithms that leverage our “secret sauce” – depth data from a single sensor equipped with our Transmissive Diffraction Mask. Responsibilities include leading the team that optimizes and refines our DepthIQ depth acquisition algorithm and develops compelling proof-of-concept demonstration software that highlights the capabilities and advantages of our approach. Typical use cases include anti-spoofing for facial login, gesture recognition, and 3D-scene creation.


What you bring to our team:

  • At least 5 years of experience developing computational imaging solutions.
  • Strong preference will be given to candidates with proven experience in-depth solutions (stereo, time of flight, structured light).
  • Solid technical background in image processing techniques such as image filtering, feature extraction, image enhancement, and image segmentation.
  • At least 2 years of experience in team management.
  • A Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science specializing in image processing, computational photography, computer vision.
  • Experience with computer vision applications such as face recognition, object detection/tracking, and gesture recognition/tracking.
  • Experience with OpenCV, OpenCL, git, gtest, JIRA.
  • Expert in C++, Python, and object-oriented programming.
  • Attention to architectural considerations such as portability to embedded devices, real-time performance, and efficient memory usage is required.

Bonus points:

  • Experience with Virtual/Augmented reality applications.
  • Experience with mobile camera applications.
  • Experience with industrial 3D applications.
  • Practical experience with deep learning approaches to computer vision / computational imaging.
  • Publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
